Brad Herr was recently hired at CV. We thought it would be good to give him some web time.

Here is a short interveiw with Coach Herr.

1) How are your players adjusting to a new coach and you adjusting to CV?

We've been working our guys very hard, and they've responded quite positively. The most important thing for us to build our program around is having our players buy-in to what we are looking to build upon, and I'd say that we're on our way.

As for adjusting to CV, it's been a very positive experience. It's tough to teach and coach in a new environment, but the district and administration has provided a good deal of support for me and the program.

2) What are your long term goals for the program?

In the long term, we're looking to build CV into a consistent, blue collar program that can be perennially competitive in the Section and League. We're making investments in our younger kids, and we need to keep our guys excited about being a part of our program.

3) Could you give us some of your background in coaching?

I coached the last six years at GS; four under Leo Ward with the boys as JV coach, and the last two under Mark Silcox with the girls program as JV / Varsity Assistant coach. Prior to that, I spent two season in the Penns Valley program (District 6)working for Nate Althouse. I also spent a season volunteering at CD East under Ken Richter and volunteered as a youth league coach throughout college.

4) Looking around the Section, who do you see as the stronger teams this
season?

Solanco is still the team to beat in Section II until proven otherwise. They're aggressive and well-coached. As for the rest of Section II, there's been quite a bit of turnover, both on the rosters and on the bench, so I'm excited to see what's out there for us. One of our main goals is to be competitive in our home area first, and we'll have to fight through a very balanced Section II to do so.

5) What are your thoughts about the cross overs being played first, at least
half of them , then section games? Do you think this helps or hurts Section
2 teams?

While I'm certainly not much of a fan of the new abbreviated season and the multiple 3-games weeks, I am a supporter of this system over playing the crossover games in the six-straight format. Historically, it's been tough for Section II to come out of these games unscathed, and Section I being 34-2 in these games has already become a reality. Since we are barely a AAAA at CV, as are other schools in the league, this puts us in situations where we are playing much larger opponents, and it can be tough to match up with Section I, at times. However, the crossovers can be beneficial to us, as they provide us with the opportunity to play a tougher level of competition and see different styles of the game, which forces us to improve that much more. Overall though, the format this season should have less of an effect on dampening any momentum that Section II teams may have since we can get right back into Section play that much sooner.
