Chris Firestine was recently hired at ELCO. We thought it would be good to give him some web time.

Here is a short interveiw with Coach Firestine.

1) Could you give us some background on your coaching career?

From 1994 - 1999 assistant coach at Central Penn College (Jr. College ranks)

1999 - 2004 assistant coach at Lebanon Valley College

2004 - 2005  year off due to job change

2005 - 2007 assistant coach ELCO high school (left college due to job change)

                2007 - ???   Head Coach ELCO

2) What do you see as your biggest challenge in your first year at ELCO?

The biggest challenge will be in the change in terminology and emphasis.  Coach Coletti and I have similar styles so there will be a lot of similarities, but there are some differences.  The implementation of the new system will be the biggest challenge as it is anytime a new head coach takes over.

3) Since you did not have an entire summer with your players, how are they adjusting to you and visa versa?

The players are adjusting well.  I spent a lot of the summer coaching them in the Smallwood summer league so the kids became familiar with my style.  Also, I have been with some of the players for almost three years now, so they know my personality, and I know theirs, which helps in the adjustment for both of us.

4)What are your thoughts on the current LL playoff set-up?

I played for ELCO back in the late 80's so I am still a little old school.  I liked having the 3 sections, and the way it was set-up back then.  Although, with the current set-up more teams have the opportunity for post-season play, so that is a plus for the kids and the schools.  After a year or two and I'm sure I will have stronger opinions, one way or the other.

5) What are your long term goals for ELCO hoops?

Consistency!!  That is my long term goal for ELCO hoops.  I would like to see us be competitive every year and eliminate the "dip" years.  I would like to see our worst year be at least a .500 season, which means we are qualifying for district play on a more consistent basis.

Some good stuff..Good luck Coach Firestine.
