District 3 Ratings Updated
3/31/03 District 3 Ratings FINAL DISTRICT 3
RATINGS MONDAY, MARCH 31, 2003 Congratulations to Lancaster Catholic, Trinity and
Scotland for winning state titles to give the District 3 out
of the 4 state titles for the boys Lancaster Catholic and Trinity became the 48th and 49th
teams on record to finish with undefeated seasons. Two other
teams finished their seasons undefeated, Nanticoke and
Philadelphia St. Joseph's Prep undefeated but then lost in
National Tournaments. Also thanks to Mike Gross of the Lancaster Sunday News
for giving me a plug when he mentioned that Elk Lake was the
all-time big winner for an undefeated state champion, going
36-0 in the 1977 Class A state title game. It was then incorrectly mentioned in the Lancaster
New Era that Catholic's 35 wins were the most ever for a big
school state champion. McKees Rocks St. Francis DeSales won
36 games in winning both the PCIAA Class B (would be AAA by
today's standards) and the Alhambra Catholic National
championships in 1965. Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt's Girls
won 36 games as a AAA school in 1984, then Whitehall a AAAA
school won 35 in 1982 and Susquehanna Township's boys and
girls teams both won 35 games in 1980 as AA (now AAA)
schools. Also Strath Haven girls won 35 games as a
AAAA school in 1984. Marian Catholic Girls won 36 games as a
Class A team in 1984. There could be more girls
teams that won more than 35 games but I do not have
complete records on girls teams.
