The regular season of the York Adams league is starting to wind down, so let's glance at the playoff picture that is developing.  The York Adams league takes 8 teams into the league playoffs Ð four teams from division 1 (section 1 and 2) and four from division 2 (section 3 and 4)

Division 1

Coach Ackerman's West York five is the best in this group Ð perhaps the best AAA team in the state.  You better be able to score over 70 points a night if you hope to beat this team.  Perhaps the most athletic player in the league is a Bulldog by the name of 'Great' Dane Lauber.  Dane is a 6'2" guard/forward who penetrates well, has a nice paint pull-up, and bangs the offensive glass.  The Bulldogs don't have a big man, but they have nice overall size.  A convincing win over Reading in a non-league Geigle affair was big.  And, congratulations to Rob Estep, who went over the 1,000 point mark during a recent 78-67 York High spank.

Coach Petry's Red Lion squad beat West York early, and stand at 17-2 overall Ð their only losses at the hands of York and Dallastown.  The Lions are excellent and are balanced. They are led in scoring by "The Point Guard" Cory Bray (13.6 ppg), "Run the Floor" Grant Becker (13.5 ppg) and "The Coach's Son" Chance Petry (11.1 ppg).  6'2" Trent Thomas is solid and 6'4" Michael Pentz is a rebounding machine.

Coach Rexroth's Dallastown Wildcat team is part of this elite group as they just handed Red Lion their second loss of the season to improve to 16-4.  Congratulations to Coach Rex, an outstanding coach and a wonderful man, as he recently picked up his 200th career win.  Talk about good overall size, the Wildcats starting five go 6'3" (Dylan Hoffman), 6'2" (Eddie Ward), 6'3" (Evan Jones), 6'2" (Kevin Frisby), and 6'3" (Chase McGowan).  Eddie Ward flies the floor Ð he is averaging 11.6 per game and Dylan Hoffman bleaches his hair and the nets for 11.9 points per game.  Everyone else is around the 10-spot mark for the Wildcats as they hand out dimes as well as most vending machines.

The fourth D1 playoff spot is still up for grabs between Central York (8-4) and York (8-4).  Both of these teams can beat anyone on any given night, but they can also be sloppy enough to lose to an average team on any given night.  The question is whether or not either of these teams are capable of beating the number one seed coming out of Division 2 Ð which will probably be York Suburban.

Division 2

The best team in Division 2 is the York Suburban Trojans.  They are solid and love to drain the trey.  Their big win of the season to date is a 66-63 last second win over York Catholic in holiday tournament action.  Nick Murray drained that trey.  York Catholic is the next best in this group.  They are good enough to go deep, and maybe win, the District 3 AA playoffs, but probably not good enough to be a York Adams league contender.  The final 2 spots are still up for grabs Ð but, give Delone Catholic has the edge.  Either Delone (8-4) or the boys from the apple capital of the world, Biglerville, (7-5) will represent section 4.  And, either Littlestown (7-6), Eastern York (6-6), or Northeastern (5-6) will fill out the final playoff spot.  Don't expect any of these teams to hang around after the first round, however.
