Lancaster vs. Annville-Cleona - The Dutchmen started the game fast by going inside to 6-5 Brian Barry, who scored 10pts in the first quarter, but the Tornado still led 14-12 at the end of the period. A big second quarter gave them a 33-24 half time lead and they were just to quick for Annville-Cleona. McCaskey's biggest lead was 50-30 but they settled for a 67-54 victory. Franklyn Thomas led with 20pts, Four other players had at least 8pts for the Tornado. Barry led the losers with a game-high 24pts.

Lebanon vs. Garden Spot - Anthony Trautman scored 20pts, Tyler Spancake had 14pts and Brandon Leeper had 11pts as Lebanon knocked off Garden Spot 61-48. The Spartans 6-11 Bucknell recruit, Todd O'Brien, did his best to keep them in the game as he had 28pts, 10rebs and 5blks. O'Brien had 10pts in the first quarter, but Lebanon still led 21-12. The Cedars were up 34-22 at the half. Garden Spot's biggest problem was that they could not handle the Lebanon pressure defense. They did cut the lead to six mid-way in the fourth, but Lebanon spread the floor and pulled away again for the win.

Lancaster Catholic vs. Warwick - The Crusaders fought back from a 12-point deficit to start the second half to defeat Warwick 57-48. Matt Balasavage came off the bench and scored a game-high 16pts for Lancaster Catholic. It was his first action since a back injury on January 20. Catholic held the Warriors to just 14 points in the second half. Still down 40-34 heading to the final 8-minutes, Catholic used a 23-8 fourth for the win. Jon Markel and Eric Spence both had 12pts and Dan Sweigart added 10pts. Warwick was led by Travis Gladfelter with 13pts, Sheldon Griffin with 12pts, 7rebs, 3blks and Randy Yost added 11pts.

The Crusaders quickly cut that to 28-27 at the start of the third quarter. Solanco regrouped and led 39-36 after three. Championship -

Lancaster vs. Lancaster Catholic - McCaskey won their third consecutive title by blowing away Lancaster Catholic 86-57 before only 1900 at the Giant Center in Hershey. The crowd was kept down by 15 degree temperatures and icy roads outside. The Tornado led 17-13 after the first quarter and 35-28 at the half thanks to a thunderous follow-up dunk by soph sensation, Lamar Patterson with 0:01 on the clock at the half. Our Dell Jackson, as well as others called that dunk an ESPN highlight play of the night dunk. McCaskey then opened the second half on a 10-2 run to put it out of reach and ended the third quarter ahead 62-44. The Tornado went on to outscored Catholic 24-13 in the fourth to gain the big win. Juniors, Jerren Harris and Franklyn Thomas led with 19pts, Dudie Hunter had 14pts and Patterson 12pts. Catholic was led by Eric Spence with a game-high 29pts and Keith Sweigart with 13pts.

NOTE: I can not do this rundown without mentioning Earl ÒPoppaÓ Boots, the McCaskey longtime assistant coach, who I just found out, is recovering from recent prostate surgery and will likely miss the entire postseason. Poppa has been a fixture at McCaskey for well over 40-years as a player in the early 60's, to a coach and always a friend to everyone. I was lucky enough to know him for most of that time. And he was always a very gracious man and had the love, passion and patience for the players in his heart. Poppa we wish you the best of luck with our prayers in hoping you have a quick and full recovery.
