2011 FINAL RATINGS

1. York (27-3) (AAAA)

Won their first District AAAA title since 1995 and 10th overall. To get that title the Bearcats defeated Hershey 82-71 in the Round of 16, Chambersburg 66-61 in the Quarterfinals, Cedar Cliff 62-59 in the Semifinals and Red Land 69-58 in the ChampionshipÉ..York then had the unfortunate task of playing and losing to powerful Penn Wood 76-66 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 32.

 

 

2. Cedar Cliff (23-6) (AAAA)

Finished third in District AAAA. Beat Manheim Township 51-38 in Round of 16 and Dallastown 67-65 in overtime in the Quarterfinals. Then lost to York 62-59 in the Semifinals. Came back and defeated Reading 79-70 to take Third PlaceÉ..Then lost to West Chester Rustin 55-39 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 32.

 

 

3. Red Land (22-7) (AAAA)

Finished second in District AAAA with a narrow win over Penn Manor 48-44 in the Round of 16, then blasted Lebanon 70-28 in the Quarterfinals and played what many thought was their best game of the year in beating Reading 71-68 in the Semifinals. In the Championship they could not handle the full court pressure two games in a row and lost to York 69-58.É.Easily defeated Philadelphia John Bartram 69-47 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 32, edged an overmatched Lower Merion 40-38 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 16. Then lost to a shorthanded Plymouth-Whitemarsh 56-45 in the PIAA AAAA Quarterfinals.

 

 

4. Reading (23-6) (AAAA)

Finished a disappointing fourth in District AAAA. Defeated Lancaster McCaskey 75-66 in the Round of 16 and Central Dauphin 64-50 in the Quarterfinals, then had players with flu and was victimized by Red LandÕs best game of the year and lost 71-68 in the Semifinals. Took Fourth Place when they lost to Mid-Penn League champ, Cedar Cliff 79-70.É.In the PIAA AAAA Round of 32 saw their season end with a loss to Philadelphia LaSalle 57-55.

 

 

5. Lancaster Catholic (29-2) (AAA)

The Crusaders rolled through to the District AAA title with victories over Gettysburg 64-38 in the Round of 16, Greencastle-Antrim 79-51 in the Quarterfinals, York Northeastern 62-32 in the Semifinals and defending champion Eastern York 64-49 in the ChampionshipÉ..Then defeated Philadelphia BoysÕ Latin 74-59 in the PIAA AAA Round of 32, Allentown Central Catholic 70-56 in the PIAA AAA Round of 16, Wilkes-Barre Holy Redeemer 56-41 in the PIAA AAA Quarterfinals before losing to eventual state champion Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti 82-75 in the PIAA AAA Semifinals.

 

 

6. Eastern York (26-5) (AAA)

Finished second in District AAA. Beat Middletown 77-52 in the Round of 16, Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt 47-42 in the Quarterfinals and Lampeter-Strasburg 41-37 in the Semifinals. Then lost to Lancaster Catholic 64-49 in the ChampionshipÉ..Upset Radnor Archbishop Carroll 56-55 in the PIAA AAA Round of 32, then beat Holy Ghost Prep 45-42 in the PIAA AAA Round of 16, before having their season ended by South Fayette 67-59 in the PIAA AAA Quarterfinals.

 

 

7. Reading Central Catholic (27-4) (A)

Won their second consecutive District A title with victories over New Hope Charter 48-43 in the Quarterfinals, Lancaster Country Day 37-22 in the Semifinals and Greenwood 24-18 in the lowest scoring District Championship game in the history of District title gamesÉ..In the PIAA A Round of 32 they defeated Sayre 56-41. In the PIAA A Round of 16 Old Forge fell 32-21. Then they lost on a last second shot to Philadelphia Constitution 55-53 in the PIAA A Quarterfinal. The game was the end of a great basketball era that started in 1940 as Central is closing at the end of school this year and merging with Reading Holy Name to become Berks Catholic next year.

 

 

8. Central Dauphin (20-7) (AAAA)

Finished fifth in District AAAA. Defeated Harrisburg 55-48 in the Round of 16. Lost to Reading 64-50 in the Quarterfinals. Then beat Lebanon 64-50 in the Semifinal for 5th, 6th & 7th Place, then defeated Chambersburg 60-49 to take Fifth PlaceÉ..In the PIAA AAAA Round of 32 saw their season come to an end in a 61-43 loss to Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

 

9. Chambersburg (19-8) (AAAA)

Finished sixth in District 3 AAAA. Defeated Cocalico 51-47 in Round of 16, lost to York 66-61 in the Quarterfinals, defeated Dallastown 70-62 in the Semifinal for 5th, 6th & 7th Place, then lost to Central Dauphin 60-49 in the 5th& 6th Place GameÉ..Lost to Council Rock North 60-52 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 32.

 

10. Dallastown (21-8) (AAAA)

Finished seventh and grabbed the last playoff spot in District AAAA. Defeated York South Western 62-56 in the Round of 16, lost to Cedar Cliff 67-65 in overtime in the Quarterfinals, lost to Chambersburg 70-62 in the Playback for 5th, 6th & 7th Place, then defeated Lebanon 66-57 for Seventh Place.É.Lost to Chester 69-56 in the PIAA AAAA Round of 32.

 

11. Harrisburg (17-7) (AAAA)

For second consecutive year the Cougars were out in the first round of DistrictÕs as they lost at home to Central Dauphin 55-48 in the District AAAA Round of 16.

 

12. Hershey (15-9) (AAAA

Season ended with a 82-71 loss to York in the District AAAA Round of 16.

 

 

13. Hempfield (18-9) (AAAA)

Ended season with a 48-37 upset to York South Western in a District AAAA Play-In Game. The game was one night after the Black Knights had defeated Lancaster McCaskey for the Lancaster-Lebanon League Championship. They had also given Lancaster Catholic their only loss of the season until they lost to eventual AAA state champion, Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti in the eastern final, in the L-L quarterfinals.

 

 

14. . Lancaster McCaskey (17-11) (AAAA)

Ended season with a 75-66 loss at Reading in a District AAAA Round of 16 game.

 

 

15. Penn Manor (16-7) (AAAA)

The Comets who led for three quarters saw their season end when they were outscored 11-4 in the fourth quarter in a 48-44 loss to Red Land in the District AAAA Round of 16.

 

 

16. Lampeter-Strasburg (20-9) (AAA)

The Pioneers finished third in District AAA. They defeated East Pennsboro 49-47 in the Round of 16 and highly regarded Trinity 43-37 in the Quarterfinals before losing to Eastern York 41-37 in the Semifinals. Then defeated York Northeastern 58-49 to take Third PlaceÉ. In the PIAA AAA Round of 32, L-S saw their season end with a 67-58 loss to West Scranton.

 

 

17. Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt (17-10) (AAA)

The Crusaders finished fifth in District AAA play defeating Schuylkill Valley 75-65 in the Round of 16, losing to Eastern York 47-42 in the Quarterfinals and then defeating both Trinity 62-55 and Annville-Cleona 50-45 for Fifth PlaceÉ..Then were beaten in the PIAA AAA Round of 32 by Octorara 58-54.

 

 

18. Trinity (20-5) (AAA)

Finished sixth in District AAA and did not qualify for the state tournament. Defeated Kennard-Dale 66-47 in the Round of 16, lost to Lampeter-Strasburg 43-37 in the Quarterfinals and then lost to Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt 62-55 in the Playback for Fifth & Sixth Place.

 

 

19. York Northeastern (18-9) (AAA)

Finished fourth in District AAA. Defeated York Suburban 51-47 in Round of 16, defeated Annville-Cleona 42-39 in Quarterfinals. Lost to Lancaster Catholic 62-32 in Semifinals and lost to Lampeter-Strasburg 58-49 in Third-Fourth Place gameÉ..In PIAA AAA Round of 32 was beaten by Holy Ghost Prep 63-47.

 

 

20. Annville-Cleona (21-7) (AAA)

Finished sixth in District AAA. Defeated West York 52-43 in Round of 16. Then lost to York Northeastern 42-39 in Quarterfinal. Came back and beat Greencastle-Antrim 63-42 in the Play for Fifth & Sixth Place, but lost to Harrisburg Bishop McDevitt 50-45 to finish in Sixth PlaceÉ..Then opened state tournament losing to eventual state champion, Philadelphia Neumann-Goretti 62-34 in the PIAA AAA Round of 32.
