1. Reading (27-2) (AAAA)
The Red Knights built a 24-12 lead early in the second
quarter, but some sloppy play with the ball and WilsonÕs ability to get
to the rim in the second half saw them lose all but one point of that lead
in the AAAA Semifinal.
Then in the last 12 seconds, Trenity Burdine came up with two steals to seal a
34-33 victory. Burdine with 18pts and Xavier Mumford with 12pts, scored 30 of ReadingÕs 34 points in the
gameÉ..Reading took a 16-13 first quarter lead over Hempfield in the AAAA
Championship game
but saw the Black Knights pull in front 26-23 at the half. A basket by Hempfield
to start the third put Reading behind 28-23, but then Trenity Burdine
took over
scoring 11 of his game-high 20pts in the rest of the quarter as the Red
Knights led 36-29 heading into the final eight minutes. They would extend
the lead to 39-29 to start the fourth, but Hempfield made a run and cut
the lead to 43-41. But after a couple of made foul shots, Burdine scored five points in about 15 seconds
and the lead was back up to 52-41. The final was 54-46. Yamil Echavarria
scored 14pts
and Xavier Mumford grabbed 10 rebounds to back up Burdine. The District title was ReadingÕs
20th overall, 19 in District 3 and 1
in District 1 in the 1920Ós.
2. Hempfield (27-1) (AAAA)
The Black Knights led only 19-16 after the first quarter
but kept expanding on that lead throughout the game and defeated York 69-53
in the AAAA Semifinal game. Christian Walck controlled the tempo of the game and led with 21pts
and Mike Uehlein with
18 points and Taylor McDuffie with 17 points controlled the paint and York really had no
real answer for the threesomeÉ..Hempfield saw their chance at an unbeaten
season end when they lost to Reading 54-46 in the AAAA Championship. Christian Walck had a good game with 18pts, Zach
Sheetz had
12pts and Taylor McDuffie added 10pts. Despite McDiffie scoring 10pts, Hempfield could never really get their
inside game going as Reading was nearly as big inside and to quick for the
Black Knights.
3. Eastern York (28-0) (AAA)
Overcame a 26-19 halftime deficit with a big third
quarter (31-11) and eased to a 66-52 victory over East Pennsboro in the
AAA Semifinal.
Rutgers-bound Andrew Nicholas scored 10 of his 28 points in the third, Austin Tillotson
scored eight
of his 17, and Nate Bollinger eight of his 14 as Eastern outscored the Panthers 31-11 in
the third quarter. Tillotson also contributed nine rebounds and seven assistsÉ..In the
AAA Championship the
Golden Knight got out to a 25-7 lead at the beginning of the second quarter,
but saw Lancaster Catholic get hot and tighten up their defense in the second
and third quarter. Eastern trailed after three 48-45 and had to get a basket
by Nate Bollinger with
2.7 second left to pull out a 55-53 victory and win the District title.
Nicholas led
the way with 15pts, Tillotson had
14pts and Davin Zimmerman had 10pts.
4. Wilson (24-4) (AAAA)
In the AAAA Semifinals, the Bulldogs fought back from a
second quarter 24-12 deficit but came up just short in a 34-33 loss to Reading.
Jereme Good led
with 12pts and Tyler Beck added 11ptsÉ..In another close game, Wilson took AAAA
3rd Place with a 59-57 win over York as Sam
Marella stole
the ball and hit a lay-up to put the Bulldogs up 53-52 with just over a
minute left. Jereme Good led
all Bulldogs scorers with a career-high 22pts. Tyler Beck scored 11pts.
5. York (23-6) (AAAA)
In the AAAA Semifinals, the Bearcats were fighting from
behind from the end of the first quarter through out the rest of the game
and fell to Hempfield 69-53. Jevaughn Murphy led with 14pts and Ryan Matthews had 12ptsÉ..Then in the AAAA 3rd, 4th Place game, they were edged out in the end
by Wilson 59-57. Jevaughn Murphy again was high with 15pts, Kelvin Parker had 14pts and Ryan Matthews added 10pts.
6. Reading Central Catholic (26-1)
(A)
Rolls to a 60-31 victory over Millersburg in the A
Semifinals.
Marcus Dawkins posted
15 of his game-high 19pts in RCC's game-turning 21-5 second-quarter run.
Donovon Jack chipped
in 14pts for RCCÉ..The Cardinals avenged a loss in last years A Championship
with a 51-32 victory over Greenwood.
Marcus Dawkins led the rout with 24pts and 12rebs. Donovon Jack added 17pts and 16rebs. Dawkins
also went
over the 1,000 mark for his career which started at Reading High three years
ago.
7. Lancaster Catholic (22-5) (AAA)
Defeated Steelton-Highspire 62-44 in the AAA Semifinals.
Paul Senkowski
finished with a game-high 19pts, Phil Wenger scored 17pts, and Tyler Purvis
and Ross Hall each had 12pts for the Crusaders,
who outscored the Rollers by a 42-21 count in the second halfÉ..In the AA
Championship,
the Crusaders who had two straight upset wins (over Hershey and Steelton-Highspire)
almost pulled off a third but lost to Eastern York 55-53 on a last second
shot. Tyler Purvis did
all he could to help pull out the win as he hit five threeÕs and scored
25pts, Phil Wenger had
11pts and Ross Hall added
10pts.
8. Steelton-Highspire (20-8) (AAA)
Lost to Lancaster Catholic 62-44 in the AAA Semifinals.
Jermell Fleming Jr. scored
14, Ryan Hill 13 and
Jeff Davis 12
for Steel-High, which committed 22 turnovers, was whistled for two technicals
and shot just 18-for-51 from the floorÉ..Came back and took AAA 3rd place with a 72-64 win over East Pennsboro. Jermell
Fleming Jr. (20pts),
Ryan Hill (16pts)
and Jeff Davis (15pts)
combined for 51 points for the Rollers.
9. Red Land (24-5) (AAAA)
In a AAAA Playback for 5th, 6th and 7th place, Red Land edged Penn Manor 44-37
as Steve Zack led
with 19pts, 9rebsÉ..Defeated Warwick 67-50 to capture 5th place in AAAA. Steve Zack led with 25 pts and Max Flournoy
added 12pts.
10. Trinity (17-7) (AA)
Eric Kindler bucketed 13 of his game-high 19pts after intermission.
Jack Osborne finished with 14pts and 11rebs, Kevin Agnew scored 13, and Mike Diminick totaled 11pts, six boards, five assists
and four steals in a 62-39 win over Hanover in the AA SemifinalÉ..The Shamrocks won their third
consecutive AA Championship with a 77-65 victory over Lancaster Mennonite. Eric Kindler
led with 23pts,
14rebs, Kevin Agnew had 20pts and Jack Osbourne added 16pts.
11. Susquehanna Township (16-9) (AAA)
Tajh Turner bagged a season-high 19pts, A.J. Dean popped a double-double (18pts, 10rebs)
and Ben Dupree tossed in 13 as Susquehanna Township kept its season alive - and clinched
a state berth - by drumming West York 71-51 in the AAA 5th, 6th & 7th place Semifinal.É.Susquehanna Township took the
AAA 5th Place game with a 64-29 romp over York Suburban.
The Indians got points from 12 different players and outscored Suburban,
45-16, in the second half. A.J. Dean led the way with 18pts and Tajh
Turner added
10.
12. East Pennsboro (20-7) (AAA)
Kelvin White scored 11 of his team-high 14pts over the first 16
minutes as East Pennsboro took a 26-19 lead into the break. Alberto De
Los Santos totaled
nine points and seven assists for East Penn, while Matt Aikey produced 10 points and seven boards,
but they lost to Eastern York 66-52 in the AAA SemifinalsÉ..Grigoriy Stepanyan (15pts) and Alberto De Los Santos
(13pts) shared
28 points for East Penn in a 72-64 loss to Steelton-Highspire in the battle
for AAA 3rd & 4th Place. Kelvin White added 11pts.
13. Penn Manor (17-10) (AAAA)
The Comets, who misfired on 21 of 24 3-point attempts,
worked the glass hard, grabbing 12 offensive rebounds. Patrick Welsh
totaled 14pts,
12 boards and three blocks for Penn Manor (16-10), while Dan Elliot added 13 points in a 44-37 loss to
Red Land in a AAAA Playback for 5th, 6th and 7th placeÉ..Defeated Daniel Boone 64-54 to
take 7th Place and the last entry into the state
tournament from the AAAA tournament. Patrick Welsh led with 16pts, Laronn Lee had 14pts, Sam Cornell had 11 and Jon Brooks 10.
14. Harrisburg 16-8) (AAAA)
Season over. Lost in AAAA Round of 16 to Penn Manor 63-61.
15. York Suburban (22-5) (AAA)
Kevin Donahue poured in 25 points - 16 in the fourth quarter as
Suburban defeated Hershey 64-56 in the AAA 5th and 6th place Semifinal. The defending 3-AAA champs also
picked up 10 points each from the Hinnenkamps, Sean and TedÉ..Then finished 6th in AAA as they were rolled by Susquehanna
Township 64-29. Thomas McInerney scored 16 of the 29pts.
16. Hershey (21-6) (AAA)
In the AAA Playback for 5th and 6th place, the Trojans saw their promising
season end in a 64-56 loss to York Suburban. Scott Eatherton racked up a double-double (22 points,
12 boards) for Hershey.
17. West York (16-8) (AAA)
Season
ended in 71-51 loss to Susquehanna Township in a AAA 5th & 6th Place Semifinal. The Bulldogs were led by Bryton
Abel's 12
points.
18. Warwick (17-10) (AAAA)
In a 68-58 win over Daniel Boone in a AAAA 5th, 6th & 7th place Semifinal, the Warriors were led by Vince
Soto with
16pts, Hector Cruz with
15 pts, Deron Thompson with
13pts and Tim Heckman with 12ptsÉ..Vince Soto led Warwick with 19pts in 67-50 loss to Red Land in a
AAAA 5th & 6th Place game.
19. Red Lion (16-9) (AAAA)
Season over. Lost in the AAAA Round of 16 to Red Land 45-36.
20. Lampeter-Strasburg (17-8) (AAAA)
Season over. Lost in the AAAA Round of 16 to York 71-39.
DROPPED OUT: Daniel
Boone (21-8) (AAAA)
After losing twice to miss the state tournament. In
the AAAA Playback for 5th, 6th and 7th place, Tyler Brooks had 31pts, but the Blazers were outscored
22-11 in the fourth quarter of a 68-58 loss to WarwickÉ..Season ended with
64-54 loss to Penn Manor in the District 3 AAAA 7th Place game. Brett Simmons had 16pts and Justin Sowers had 12pts.
